Upcoming Speakers 2020-2021 Season

Except for our December and June meetings, each monthly CPOPC meeting features a guest speaker to provide us with a presentation on a specific topic related to photography.

Our schedule of guest speakers for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season is described in the table below

Month Speaker Topic and Speaker Notes
February 2021 Peter Fundarek “Back to Basics: Selecting and Using Lenses”
Peter will talk about the different groups of lenses, from wide angle to long telephoto, and things to look for when selecting them. Things like aperture, bokeh and blur units. Then he will discuss which each type would be good for and the positives and negatives of different lenses.
Pete is a long-time member of CPOPC.  As a scientist by training, he always experiments to better understand what he sees.  He enjoys a variety of different types of photography including landscape, street, portrait, event, macro and recently, astrophotography.
Peter has graciously provided his presentation slides which can be found here.
March 2021 Michael Dorais “ON BECOMING A PHOTOGRAPHER…
a never-ending journey”
Michel will present 50 years of learnings as a photographer outlining how experiences, membership to photo clubs, projects and learned lessons all work towards our own development as photographers.  His theory is that learning is not continuous but rather via “significant moments” in a photographer’s life and that we must pay attention to those precious moments to fully benefit from them.
Michel started photography in 1965, studied it here and in France, opened a studio in Ottawa in the 70s before closing it shortly after and pursuing a different career in the public service. He discovered digital photography around 2004 and have been pursuing his photographic development intensively since.  His work can be found at http://micdorais.smugmug.com
